yorke peninsula, south australia photography experience
8-12 June, 14-18 october 2026, 5 days/ 4 nights

The Yorke Peninsula in South Australia is close to Adelaide, surrounded by ocean on 3 sides, and offers charming seaside towns to wander through, extensive landscapes and wildlife, crashing waves, white sandy beaches, farming crops, old farms and a plethora of marine life like crayfish, stingrays and dolphins.

What is a photography experience? It is MORE than a workshop…..MORE than a tour……we base ourselves for 4 nights and 5 days at an exclusive-use stunning historic property called Ballara Art and Lifestyle Retreat in Warooka, Yorke Peninsula. The property is situated an easy 2.5 - 3 hour drive from Adelaide Airport. Once you arrive, we provide transport and ALL meals (and snacks!) for the duration of the experience. Ballara often hosts creative workshops and artistic experiences, and is a wonderful inspiration for creative photography: textures, plants, rusty sheds, vintage homewares, and all with a serene backdrop out to crops and the ocean, we could spend the whole 5 days here and never run out of things to do or photograph (but we get out every day to see more!).

This gorgeous property has been lovingly restored and contains vintage china, teaspoons, bottles, photos, maps, homewares (even a rocking horse) from 4 generations of family. Comfortable accommodation consists of 1x twin share room, 1x double and 1x queen, with shared facilities. You may be sharing a twin room with another participant (same sex) . The tour is fully catered, starting from dinner on Day 1 and ending at lunchtime on Day 5.

Our passionate local guide, Steph Ball, will show us the best of the Yorke Peninsula, mostly away from the well-worn tourist tracks. We will have options such as photographing tiny wildflowers, trying out some flat lay techniques, looking at texture and art, visiting pink salt lakes, lighthouses, seeing dolphins, emus and colourful birds. Our itinerary is loose, flexible, and weather-dependent, but you will never be bored!

Each day, we explore with our local guide and plan an itinerary according to weather conditions. We might visit a working sheep farm, or dolphins in the surf, or a lighthouse, or photograph a pink salt lake. We will explore textures and light everywhere we go!

Wanda is always on hand to assist with tips and tricks, help you set up and understand the best compositions, and guide you in the use of your own filters. Every lens will be an asset here: wide angle, telephoto, macro, bring what you have.
